It contains information on how to send messages to the mailing list, and it also tells you how to LEAVE the mailing list without making a fool of yourself or raising the ire of the list owner. *SAVE* this message somewhere so you can refer to it again. *PRINT* it out. *DON'T DELETE* it. This means you. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ WELCOME Welcome to the Arielholics mailing list, the only mailing list entirely devoted to Ariel, Disney's Little Mermaid! {----------------------------------------} WHAT IS AN ARIELHOLIC? The term "Arielholic" developed on the Usenet newsgroup rec.arts.disney in 1993. It was first used by Steve Liu in a post titled, "Are you an Arielholic?" The Arielholics mailing list is unaffiliated with the Arielholics Anonymous Home Page maintained by Steve Liu. However, his original aritcle is available for viewing at http://www.access.digex.net/~admiral/arielholic.html . An Arielholic is someone who has what others might call an unnatural love for Ariel. An Arielholic is someone who can spot the likeness of Ariel at fifty paces. An Arielholic is someone who sees Ariel as more than a mere cartoon character, more than a mere mermaid, more than a mere sexy redhead. To an Arielholic, Ariel is the personification of all that is good in the world. To others, an Arielholic is a loony. To an Arielholic, the others may be right, but it doesn't matter, and besides, they *could* be wrong... {----------------------------------------} CHARTER Anything to do with Ariel, mermaid princess of Atlantica from Disney's film _The Little Mermaid_ or any spinoffs thereof. For example: Ariel merchandise (cheap and expensive), TV series, comics, fan fiction. This list is unmoderated and may be mailed to by anyone, even non-members. As such this charter is voluntary, but repeated abuse of it could cause you to be removed from the list. For discussion of mermaids in general, a more suitable mailing list is maintained by Neil Collins . For discussion of Disney in general, see the rec.arts.disney.* Usenet hierarchy. {----------------------------------------} MEMBERSHIP -- THIS IS THE PART ABOUT (UN)SUBSCRIBING! To unsubscribe from the list, send mail to the address arielholics-request@iastate.edu with the body unsubscribe To resubscribe, simply send email to the same address with the body subscribe BE SURE TO SEND THE EMAIL FROM THE ACCOUNT BEING (UN)SUBSCRIBED!! If you must (un)subscribe an address you're not currently able to access (such as a confused friend's email), you can use unsubscribe or subscribe These requests for (un)subscribing other accounts will be bounced by the server to the list owner (me), and I will usually send email to the account concerned to be sure they approve of the request. *NOTE*NOTE*NOTE*NOTE*NOTE*NOTE*NOTE*NOTE*NOTE*NOTE*NOTE*NOTE*NOTE* Please please *please* note the "-request" in the address. This is the same address you mailed to join. If you leave it off then you will send your message to the list, you will look like an idiot, the list owner will probably get peeved, and you won't be unsubscribed! *NOTE*NOTE*NOTE*NOTE*NOTE*NOTE*NOTE*NOTE*NOTE*NOTE*NOTE*NOTE*NOTE* To receive this information file (hey, some people might memorize this bit, and there could conceivably be updates now and then), send email to the same request address with the body info Because some members may want anonymity, a member list is not available. {----------------------------------------} ETIQUETTE Arielholics tend to be maturely behaved people of all ages. Members usually carry on discussions and even arguments in a similarly civil fashion. Good imaginations are common and welcome here. Please remember when posting, though, to keep things decent for list members of all ages. (And trying to keep things more or less on-topic is also appreciated.) Also remember that there are list members not only of many different ages, but also of different nationalities. People on the list have varying degrees of experience with the English language, so please be tolerant of grammar or spelling that is less than perfect. If necessary, simply ask for the person to re-state or clarify something you don't understand, but please don't attack the person. Spam and chain letters are NOT welcome on this list in any form. That's it, pure and simple. They're rude and annoying, and they waste time, disk/account space, and bandwidth. Please do not post large articles, especially binaries, to the list. This means no pictures, sounds, movies, programs, MIME attachments, "paper clip" attachments, other attachments, indeed anything but text. This can fill subscribers' mail spools and cause much damage to mail transfer machines. Also, many people still pay for service based on number and size of emails and/or have slow modems. If you have a binary article or a large piece of fan fiction, post to the list asking for people who want it to mail you and ask for it privately. Please also do not do anything illegal on this mailing list. This includes using it as a base for video piracy. {----------------------------------------} POSTING The mailing list address is arielholics@iastate.edu . That is, to send a message to the list, send mail to that address. It will automatically be forwarded to all other members. The Reply-To: header is unchanged. Replying to a message sends mail only to the originator of the message. To send a followup to the mailing list you will have to change the To: header to arielholics@iastate.edu . {----------------------------------------} FEEDBACK If you have any suggestions on how the mailing list can be improved, please mail the request address above. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This information file and the Arielholics list itself was originally lovingly created and maintained by Debbie Pickett. They are now maintained by Dan Black . -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
